Making Garage Floor Plans

Many people who are planning to build their own home have trouble with the small details. They know how they want the layout of the major parts of the home (like where the bedrooms should go and which direction the windows should face) but they aren’t sure about the small things like plans for the garage.

When making garage floor plans, you’ll want to think about several different factors including:

  • The primary purpose of the garage. How much space do you need to meet the primary purpose of the garage (which is probably a place to park your car)?
  • The secondary and other purposes of the garage. Will you be using the garage as work space? Studio space? Storage space?
  • The place of the garage in the other house plans. Is it going to make a difference to your home design if the garage is big or small? If it’s in front of the home or to the side?
  • What everyone else in the home thinks. Couples often forget to discuss the little details but you may find that the garage design matters more to your spouse than you might have thought.

When addressing the small details of the home that you’re building, you’ll want to make sure that you think about the space as it stands alone as well as how this design fits in with the rest of the bigger details that you’ve already worked out.
