Don’t Pretend to Know what You Don’t

I just made plans for the Fourth of July holiday and they include going to a BBQ. The BBQ should be a lot of fun but there is one friend of a friend who I’m dreading seeing. He always tries to talk to me at the gatherings that we go to and I always find him to be incessantly boring. The reason is because he’s one of those people who always talks about things he knows nothing about.
For example, when I saw him last year I had just gotten into Day Trading Forex and was really amped up about my new endeavor. I was telling someone about a Forex Trading Strategy course that I was about to take when this guy that I can’t stand wandered into the conversation. He took over the entire conversation telling us stories about Futures Signals, a topic that it was very apparent he knew nothing about. Instead of having a great chat with an old friend about my new interests, I was left listening to this guy drone on and on.
The thing is, it wouldn’t be so bad if he actually knew what he was talking about. But since he doesn’t, there often seems to be no point in listening to him talk at all. It serves as a good reminder to me every year to just shut up about the things I don’t know about so that I can listen and learn!
